A VERY Rough Start

My parents and sister (Kate) and brother-in-law (Ryan) started to make their way to Germany last Saturday.  They pretty much had everything that could go wrong--go wrong.

First, as they were at the light right before the long-term parking to the Salt Lake International airport, they had a guy driving a big, pickup truck with a hitch on the back, back up into them.  Luckily, no one was hurt. Second, as they made their way to Atlanta, where their layover was, someone forgot to "send the paperwork" ahead notifying the airport that they were coming.  They landed, but were unable to get off the plane.  Their layover was just over an hour long.  By the time they got off their plane, they knew it was going to be close.  My brother-in-law, Ryan, ran ahead of everyone in hopes that he could catch the plane and hold it for everyone else.  When Ryan got to the gate, the doors were already closed but the plane was still in sight.  Of course, the plane would not come back, but talk about frustrating!  Fortunately, they were able to be re-routed to an AirFrance flight to Paris almost immediately.  However, once they got on the AirFrance flight they realized that they were not booked on the same flights from Paris to Frankfurt!  Nothing could be done while on the plane, and they were told they would have to work it all out once they were in Paris.  By the time they arrived in Paris, they weren't able to get all four of them on the earlier flight so they got to spend 5 or 6 hours waiting in the airport to catch the later flight.  They ended up arriving in Germany seven hours later than intended.  Then, they waited for their luggage, and waited and waited and waited some more. Finally, they found out that their luggage did not follow them on this crazy traveling fiasco and it was sitting in Atlanta still!  Their luggage came out on the same flight the following day and was delivered at about 12:15 PM on Monday.

All four of them were completely wiped out on Monday.  My dad has a bad back which is aggravated by flying.  I think the running through the airport just about did his back in.  He was in a lot of pain the whole trip, unfortunately.

More to come....

Until later,

Emily

I glad that they made it. That would be my worst night mare to get stranded in an airport.

Eek! That sounds like some trip saga. I'm curious why they were held on the plane in Atlanta; I've seen anyone checking people's names before they are let off the aircraft. Something about flying internationally?

To all that was concerned we did survive. The worst part was we lost 8 precious hours of time with Emily and her family. Really Dan and I lost those precious hours with Thomas and Toby. It was a wonderful time babysitting. Toby knew Papa Tractor on sight and was on his lap all the time. Even the bad back was worth the time with our family in Germany. Thanks for the wonderful time we did have Emily we love you. Hug the boys and take care. I talk to you tomorrow. After 9:00 I open at Hall's Love Always Mom
