You may have heard on the news that some 41 million people have been fraud victims lately. People that have shopped at The Sports Authority, TJ Maxx and DSW. Well, unfortunately, James shopped at DSW while we were in Utah and we think that's where someone got a hold of our credit card number (of course, we'll never know for sure) and then tried to use it many, many times but the majority of the times it was denied, however, they did manage to buy plane tickets to tropical destinations, supplies from a home improvement store and clothing from Ann Taylor Loft--roughly a $5,000-$6,000 shopping spree on us! Of course, our credit card company won't charge us and now the card has been shut down and a new number has been issued to us and is in the mail. The only actual inconvenience is that we used it to make most of our daily purchases, (and pay it off at the end of the month) so until we get the new cards we will have to use our debit cards (and I'll have to dig around to find what my pin is!) or use cash.

Oh my gosh....I can't believe it. How did you find out...the statement or did you get a phone call with concerns of charges? I would like to fly wherever ever they went and pay a little visit to them!

I am so sorry!!! I had the same thing happen in smaller amts but even so it is such a pain in the neck! I hope things get resolved quickly!

mlk--they sent us a statement that said we needed to call them to discuss some possible fraudulent behavior. Of course, it takes us a little while to get our mail, so it had been sent out over a week ago. We got it on Saturday and they had already sent out the new cards on Friday. I think they were holding off until we called them but when we did it was shut off immediately.
I hope the new cards look like the old ones...they were cool. They were black and sleek looking and we always got a lot of comments about how cool looking they were. I always thought that was sort of funny since I had nothing to do with picking out the way they looked...they just came that way!
Just use your debt card like a credit card, that's what we do all the time since I can never remember the pin. The funds come out of your checking account as if you had written a check or used as debt. When you make your purchase select credit, or hit cancel then select credit. Just a thought....... We have been where you are and it's not fun cleaning up the mess. Good luck...... Barbie

I know the feeling -- last year someone cleaned out my checking account. Talk about panic!
The FBI was involved in solving the case--the culprits were based in Nigeria. Fortunately my bank was extremely prompt in all their actions, BUT changing all my accounts for auto pay and getting everything back on track was a nightmare that lasted MONTHS. I almost never write checks -- prefer the debit card, but narrowed it down to a culprit who I paid with a check when he came to my home to work on my computer. Apparently GOOD references is not a guarantee that someone in a company can be a RAT apparently cooperating with the crooks overseas -- but, they were caught so I felt vindicated.
Glad you had a good vacation otherwise, I know your Mom and Grandma were extremely happy to see you.
